Same-Day Digital Dentistry

New technology for restorations in a single visit.

Same-day crowns, fillings, and veneers

Our office is pleased to offer same-day crowns, fillings, and veneers to qualifying patients. We use the Planmeca PlanMill 40 S, which lets us take a digital scan of your tooth and design and create a custom, permanent restoration in the office, all in a single appointment.

The Planmeca PlanMill digital scanning and milling system used for same-day restorations

How it works

Using PlanMill, we can replace conventional impression methods, which involve an unpleasant material and an uncomfortable waiting period, with a clean, fast digital scan taken through a series of photographic images in your mouth. That scan is transferred to a design center where a 3D model of your tooth is created chairside.

We then design and customize the restoration to fit your unique bite, and it is created in a milling unit right in our dental office. The result is a natural-looking restoration that fits the surrounding teeth so well it is virtually undetectable.

Fewer visits, less waiting

Because the restoration is designed and milled the same day, you leave with your permanent crown, filling, or veneer already in place, without a temporary or a second appointment.

Inlays and onlays: a more conservative option

Not every damaged tooth needs a full crown. When there is too much damage for a filling but the healthy tooth structure is still largely intact, an inlay or onlay can restore the tooth without removing as much of your natural enamel as a crown requires.

An inlay fits within the grooves on the chewing surface of the tooth, while an onlay extends over one or more of the tooth's cusps, covering a bit more of the surface. Both are milled from the same digital scan as a same-day crown, so the fit is just as precise, but the preparation is more conservative, keeping more of your own tooth in place.

When Dr. Sipes determines an inlay or onlay will restore the tooth as well as a crown, we recommend it, because preserving more of your natural tooth structure now can mean a healthier, stronger tooth over the years ahead.

What this means for you

  • No messy impression material and no biting down on a tray for minutes at a time.
  • One appointment instead of two, so there is no temporary restoration to protect in the meantime.
  • A digital model lets us check the fit and your bite before anything is milled, so the restoration is precise from the start.
  • You see the proposed design on screen before it is made, so you know what to expect before we begin.

What to expect at your appointment

Dr. Sipes examines the tooth and prepares it as he would for any crown, filling, or veneer. Instead of a traditional impression, we scan the prepared tooth and the surrounding teeth with the Planmeca camera, a process that takes a few minutes while you stay comfortably in the chair. From there, you can expect some waiting time in the office while the restoration is designed and milled, after which Dr. Sipes checks the fit, makes any adjustments, and places it the same day.

Is same-day digital dentistry right for you?

Same-day crowns, fillings, and veneers are available to qualifying patients, and whether it is the right fit depends on the tooth, the extent of the damage or decay, and your bite. Dr. Sipes will walk you through your options at your exam, including whether a same-day restoration makes sense for your case or whether another approach would serve you better.

"Best dentist in Idaho! I’ve been to many natural dentists and he surpasses them all. Very good at what he does, humble, cool and thorough! Best prices too. I have no insurance… Can’t say enough as I could go on. He’s worth the drive to Nampa!! Love him and his staff is great!"
