Tooth Extractions

When a tooth needs to come out, and what comes next.

Why a tooth might need to be removed

Sometimes a tooth has so much decay that it puts the surrounding teeth at risk, or a baby tooth has roots that prevent it from falling out on its own. Infection, orthodontic correction, or a problem with a wisdom tooth can also make removal the right choice.

What the procedure involves

Each tooth root sits in a socket in your jawbone, held in place by a ligament. To remove a tooth, your dentist expands the socket and separates the tooth from that ligament. The procedure is typically quick, and it is important to share any concerns or preferences for sedation with Dr. Sipes beforehand.

Replacing an extracted tooth

Once a tooth is removed, neighboring teeth can shift and cause problems with chewing or your jaw. We will talk with you about whether a bridge, implant, or other option makes sense to replace it.

"Best dentist in Idaho! I’ve been to many natural dentists and he surpasses them all. Very good at what he does, humble, cool and thorough! Best prices too. I have no insurance… Can’t say enough as I could go on. He’s worth the drive to Nampa!! Love him and his staff is great!"
